Youth Services

Our Youth Department offers a wide variety of services to the children of Linden and their families.

Our large, up-to-date collection includes picture books, fiction and nonfiction titles, board books for babies and toddlers, fairy tales and folklore, easy readers, and read-a-longs. Stop by the Children’s Room to learn about and sign up for youth programs for all ages including, Terrific Toddlers Story and Playtime, Lego Club, DIY craft club and more!

Here at The Linden Public Library our librarians use children’s literature and other library resources to encourage a lifelong joy of reading and the opportunity for personal development.

Summer Reading
Every summer, Linden Public Library hosts Summer Reading programs for children, teens, and adults. Check back later in the year for more information on this year’s theme, pamphlets, and reading list.

Young Adults
Linden Public Library offers specialized collections of books for young adults including, fiction, reference, non-fiction, audiobooks, and graphic novels. The young adult section is located along the wall and front windows near the adult fiction and DVD sections.

Launchpads
Launchpads are pre-loaded with content for kids, teens, and adults, designed with a simple, easy-to-use interface, and 100% secure. There is no download time or need for Wi-Fi. Access to powerful content is simple as turning on each device, anytime, anywhere. Information on Launchpads can be found in the children’s room. Launchpads can be checked out at the circulation desk for 2 weeks at a time. Our Launchpads include:

  • Reading Academy Launchpad for developing verbal skills, reading skills and writing skills.
    • Pre-Emerging – Ages 3+
    • Emerging – Ages 4+
    • Early Developing – Ages 5+
    • Developing – Ages 7+
  • The Human Machine – Science – Ages 8 through 10, Grades 3 through 5
  • Numerical Order Ages 10+, Grade 6
  • ACT Prep & Act Reading – Teen

Sign up for our Wowbrary newsletter! Wowbrary alerts are sent weekly and feature the latest bestsellers, movies, music CDs, audio books, children’s titles, cookbooks, mysteries, travel guides, health books, science fiction and more purchased by the library. Patrons have the ability to customize their Wowbrary Newsletter to have it feature the genres and authors they are interested in. Community Food Pantry

  • What: Community Food Pantry donations and fundraiser.
  • How: Drop off cash, checks (made out to the Friends of the Linden Library), gift cards, and/or non-perishables to the Linden Public Library during business hours.

Navisun

Navisun, a community solar farm owner and operator, delivers clean electricity into the PSE&G grid. Navisun supports the Linden Public Library through donations for each enrollment. Patrons of the library who reside in Linden and neighboring towns are guaranteed 10% savings on their electricity costs (15% savings if low-to-moderate income, or LMI) when they sign up for community solar.

Free Live Homework Help

Did you know all New Jersey Public Libraries offer free online homework help? All you need is your library card. Whether you are learning in-person or from a distance, free live online tutors are available to help you succeed. It’s easy to get free help with your homework in math, reading, writing, science, social studies, and more.

  • To access free help:
    • 1. Log on to HelpNow.

    • 3. Select your subject and level.
    • 4. Click “Get Live Help”.

  • Writing a paper?

Freegal Music

We are pleased to offer Freegal music with over 15 million songs, Music videos and Audiobooks.

You only need a Linden library card and you will have access to the database for streaming up to 3 hours a day and 3 downloads a week. If you need any additional help, then please email us here.

Freegal offers access to about 15 million+ songs, including Sony Music’s catalog of legendary artists. In total the collection is comprised of music from over 40,000+ labels with music that originates in over 100 countries. There is no software to download, and there are no digital rights management (DRM) restrictions. Friends of the Library

The Friends of the Linden Library are a member-based organization made up of caring, involved people who support a strong public library system for the benefit of the community. Friends enrich the library in many ways.

Each month the Friends provide programs for library patrons. These include Movies, Lego Club, Children’s Yoga, Wags To Read (therapeutic dog

Northstar Digital Literacy

Linden Public Library now offers the Northstar Digital Literacy. This program can be assessed remotely with no library card required for registration. Northstar teaches and assesses essential computer skills through self-guided modules in three areas: Essential Computer Skills, Essential Software Skills, and Using Technology in Daily Life. Certificates are awarded for passing assessments, which serve as valuable credentials for employment and education. If assessments are not passed, personalized feedback and resources are provided, with opportunities to retake the tests after improvement. Click here to access Northstar Digital Literacy

Library Board

The Linden Library Board is an autonomous governing body. It has ten members and holds regular monthly meetings to review monthly activities and anticipated needs. Upcoming meeting information is posted on the Linden Public Library website and social media as well as at City Hall.
