• What: Introduction to Capoeira at the Summer Learning Kick Off Party. Developed in Brazil by enslaved Africans during the 16th century, the martial art of Capoeira, disguised as a dance and including acrobatics, music, and the Portuguese language, was used as a means to resist oppresion in the relentless struggle for freedom. This program gives students the opportunity to participate in all aspects of capoeira while simultaneously promoting an active, healthy lifestyle. Balance, coordination, endurance, self-expression, and respect are just a few of the counless benefits capoeira fosters in its practitioners.
• When: June 26, 2023 from 10am until 11am.
• Where: Columbia Bank Room at the Linden Public Library.
